In the heart of February, we are celebrating "We Love Our Alumni,” which showcases the journeys of former GRPS students who have gone on to make a difference in the community and returned to work at the district. One such story is that of Birgitte (Krontoft) Rizkalla, a 1992 graduate of City High, who now teaches 4th grade at Buchanan Elementary.

Rizkalla’s love for diversity and opportunities within the GRPS district is evident. She cherishes living in Grand Rapids and is proud to send her own children to GRPS schools. Reflecting on her own school days, she fondly remembers her time at Blandford School, tells Rizkalla. “Teachers Mr. G and Mrs. Beckman made her feel special, safe, and excited to learn. I want my students to feel the same way they made me feel.” 

Inspired by their impact, Birgitte strives to create the same nurturing environment for her students, ensuring they feel as valued and motivated as she once did.
