February is "Love Our Alumni" month at Grand Rapids Public Schools, and we are thrilled to highlight one of our very own, Angela (Slonske) Copenhaver, whose journey through GRPS has been truly inspiring.
Copenhaver’s educational path began at C.A. Frost K-8th Grade, where she attended from 1995 to 2003. Her time at Frost was filled with meaningful experiences, particularly in the tight-knit community of the environmental theme school on the west side of Grand Rapids. She also spent her sixth-grade year at Blandford School—an experience she cherishes as one of the best years of her life. Exploring the outdoors and learning amidst nature left a lasting impression on her, shaping her passion for education and the environment.
Years later, Copenhaver found herself walking the same halls—but this time, as a teacher. Now in her seventh year at C.A. Frost Elementary, she brings her love for learning and community to her own students, sharing the same excitement and passion that she once felt as a child.
“The memories at Blandford School just up the road are so fond,” reflects Copenhaver. “So much fun in the outdoors at the beautiful nature center, both as a student and now as a teacher!”
One of the most heartwarming aspects of her journey is the connection she maintains with former teachers. While many have retired, they continue to support her by sharing supplies, resources, and wisdom with her students. The sense of community at Frost and Blandford remains as strong as ever, and Copenhaver is proud to be a part of it.
Her story reflects the power of education and the impact that a supportive, engaged school community can have on a student’s life. Grand Rapids Public Schools is honored to celebrate alumni like Angela Copenhaver, who carry forward the spirit of learning, mentorship, and love for their school.
Happy "Love Our Alumni" month, GRPS family!
